This thread has really got me worried now as my dampers been removed for this setup. This is the second setup i've had now, I had a specialist components one which rubbed on the fanbelt and this SD minis one (who i think have now stopped trading) replaces the damper which now it seems will kill my engine!

Ok so is 6 really representative of the 5.28 million Minis made between 59 and 2001 ?
I was not saying that you where wrong in your statement, the early small bore engines did only have a steel pulley and no damper, however it is not just the later 998's that had dampers, I can think of at least 6 different types of bottom pulley that where fitted to the A or A+ engines
just pointing out that not all 998's had dampers

Is there anyway I can mount a trigger wheel on the inside of the standard damper so I can still use the mount i've got?

To rationalise a bit, if you are fitting a Megajolt is will be to gain performance. If you get more performance you will be driving the engine harder. To drive harder, i.e. use more revs, you will be moving the crank into greater harmonic vibration. Thus a good damper pully really should be fitted.
And that about sums it up really

That pulley and sensor mount cost me £100.... and the specialist components one I had before that just rubbed on the fan belt.
Is there anyway I can mount a trigger wheel on the inside of the standard damper so I can still use the mount i've got?
The simple answer is yes, however it depends on how much room you have between the pulley and support bracket, I'll send you a PM.
