Just wondered if the colour of the engine in mini's mean anything.
My uncles currently looking to buy a mini and we looked at one the other day which had a yellow painted engine. He said after we looked at it gold/yellow engines used to be recon engines back in the day.
This was meant to be an original untouched mini so is this the case.
No doubt there was a company that did recon engines and sprayed them yellow but was there original engines that got sprayed yellow ? Ive got a sprite and that's red.

If I remember correctly, the 998 A+ blocks were yellow, the 1275 A+ blocks (pre injection) were red and the injection blocks were black.

I stand to be corrected though.

Through years of vigorous in depth testing it was actually proven as fact that red engine blocks are faster and by painting it red you can add up to 25BHP! Forget stage one kits just paint everything red.

The above statement is Fact.

Back in the day a gold painted engine was a gold seal reconditioned engine - engines that were recomditioned by BMC to the highest standards.

Yellow is an A+ engine.

Anyone can paint an engine, if you think it's special grab the number and look up the code.

I had a goldseal engine in my car (factory re-conditioned) , which came with piston liners. my car had 36,000 miles on it and by 40,000 miles the engine was finished.

It doesn't make too much difference

let me put it this way
yellow and green a series vs a red cardboard cutout of an engine.

the cardboard would win everytime.
why i hear you ask?
