It didn't say you couldn't but without a high flow head, you'll not be able to reap the benefits...im running 1.5's with my MD286
dont go for silly Ib springs, youll just wear the cam lobes.
As for poundage of springs, I use 220's in mine ( double springs ) that on a 290 and pressed steel rockers... but have my hands on a set of ISKY's for the next build
( may try a 300/310 degree cam 
)
