i use a piece of washing line, tied in a loop, this goes between the seal and screen and u pull it back and forward to spread the seal (this means one hand inside the car, through the open door window, and one outside,) then slide the washing line along and let the screen slip into the gap, fitting the filler strips the trickybit,

I bought one of the proper fitting tools from frost restoration and found it invaluable, much easier than messing around with string and washing up liquid! It also comes with the tool for fitting the chrome fillet which is virtually impossible without. They are only about 20 quid.

i always thought that you fitted the rubber to the screen and the put string round the rubber and place the window on the outside of the car and push it into the gap whilst someone sits in the car and pulls the string from inside to get the rubber over the lip in the car that holds the window in
is this wrong then

I fitted the seal to the opening first (using a bit of windscrean sealant), then slid the lower edge of the screen into the groove of the seal, and worked the rest of the seal outside the glass with a large blunt screwdriver. Take your time, do a little section at once, dont be tempted to try doing a whole run at once, otherwise you will slip and gouge...

a bit of lube works wonders ;D i use "personal" lube to fit windscreens, as it washes off with water, without leaving silicon or other contaminants behind.

I'm not sure about the two different seals you have. I suggest measuring around the perimeter of the front glass, then the rear glass and comparing those measurements to the perimeters of the two seals to determine which seal goes where.

As for fitting the glass to the car, I apologize for not noticing this thread when you started it at the beginning of January. Please see the FAQ in the link below.
http://www.theminifo...showtopic=10693

Succinctly, rubber to the car (taped in place temporarily if needed). Fit the glass to the rubber and use a plastic utensil to pry the rubber over the glass. A bit of personal lube (K-Y) works wonders. Make sure the seal is well lubed during the lock strip installation and use a proper fillet tool to install it. (Proper includes home made... just avoid screwdrivers and such).

You can make the string method work but it typically makes a mess of things and is much, much more difficult on a Mini.
