there is a lot of labour involved in deseeming, filling, painting and then you have BIVA testing and reregistering the mini

You had to sneak a BIVA test in didnt you bungle :(

I swear your daily ambition is to try and sneak the phrase 'BIVA' in every post

Buy anyway, deseaming a mini takes a lot of work and will be pretty costly.

The other problem with de-seaming is it needs to be done well! Filler cracking as you go over a bump would kind of spoil the look!

I supplied a very solid bare shell for deseaming (all of them inc bumpers and roof) and returning in primer to a very good body shop, but also a very good friend, next door to the unit where I work on cars. Price to me was £1000 xmas cash special including fitting the fibreglass front end, roof, fitting gapping/prepping doors/boot. Now he's done it, and I have to say to a very high standard, he says it would be at least £1500 for anyone else! And thats just deseaming the shell and returning in primer. It can be done cheaply by cutting corners, but for a proper job its a getting on for a weeks work for a pro.

I thought the main problem with de-seaming was, if it’s done badly and covered over it’s just a matter of time till the shell falls apart at the seams.

The seams are the panel joins in which hold the car together, done badly it will fall apart.

i bought a deseamed mini few years ago, few cracks in the filler so decided to scrape the old filler off and refresh it, soon as i took the filler off there was a big problem... the seams wernt welded at all! just cut off and a small layer of fibreglass bridge stuck to the rear of the seam then filler at the front to smooth it over! didnt last long though, i stripped it and sold the shell to a banger racer! didnt fancy runnin a car that would spring open in a tiny knock!
