SW10 is very good but is close to a 296 so maybe a bit more than OP is looking for

Really, I always thought that the sw10 was another 286 clone?

Its also a billet cam and not a regrind, which for me would be a good reason to consider it as well.

iv read the the sw10 is like a 286 but better on emissions. What about a sw5 with 1.5:1 rockers rob? seems a good combo detailed here and a similar thing is mentioned in the yellow bible but with a 266 and 1.5:1 rockers which in theory would be a 276. And if the other posters stop bickering one of them may give you some advice on what to choose.

Nick himself told me its close to a 296 and mentioned nothing about 286. Ive never tried it myself but know others who have and are very impressed with it

On Swifty's dynomometer it was over 130, at Baldwins it shows 160 and at Southern Carburettors it shows 140.
Notice I quoted it as bananas and not bhp as its anyones guess really

Well I believe there is lots more power potential than mine from 1380cc. there are crank, rod and piston developments now that are lots lighter than mine and that can hold peak power for a longer duration than the few hundred revs that Im currently holding it, but, thats where it does turn into a £8k engine. I will do it though at some point, Im currently saving up.

I would go for a piper BP285. Great cam with decent idle and good low down torque to match the top end power.

We use them in most of our fast road engines and most people are happy with how they drive!

We have our own rolling road and it's interesting to see what people think certain specs to make. Would hope that our rollers are some of the most accurate around as they are brand new. And after having a few concerns with initial figures has been fully re-calibrated. They even flew a bloke over from the USA to check the figures.

From figures I have seen from specs I would say a slark 1380 with 37 x 31 valves (and ported head to match) should be making more than mid nineties!

I have also plugged in the figures suggested by Paul and with his car weight and drag times and my software suggest 130 is there or there a bouts (maybe a couple of brake high)

But 130 is deffo achievable with the spec suggested, I've seen it on the rollers!

Im really sorry to Valvebounce about the thread hyjack.

What weight and drag time did you input? Dont forget my fastest run was with a massive burn out so got an excellent 60ft but I missed 3rd gear so would have been quicker

ive decided to give the 274 kent scatter ago simply because its described as sport tourque and nobody really seem to have used it much, so i think its worth a try and if not its not really a big job so swap a cam in a mini

The rolling road software can simulate a drag strip from the results its recorded from the rollers.

So I input the weight of pauls car (think i used 470kg+80kg for driver) and the drag coefficeint of a mini (stored in database) and found one of the cars ive done with about 130BHP (closest I found was 124.3bhp and 106ftlbs) then looked at the drag strip times it calculated.

obviously this was influenced by the cars diff ratio and grip on the rollers etc

To make it accurate I would have to test your actual car rather than find one close :shifty:

This is true and my best 1/4 time is 13.0 with the missed gearchange so "should" do a 12.9
