there is a tapered washer, that sits behind the castle nut on the shaft, and that can start to get squashed if you have to keep tightening the nut, which obviously just gets worse and worse, so he may have put a new one of them on which has cured the problem for a small amount of time? i replaced my one when i did the CV joint and bearings and havent had any trouble at all since! hope it helps!

Tapered washer-I remember now that's what I ordered from mini spares, it was only a few quid as well!
Can you remember how much you paid for a cv joint and bearing?
Thanks for the help. I think I might get him to take the mini in and get those parts replaced and see how it goes.

All fixed!!!
big happy face!
I had to have a new wheel bearing, a new brake disc where a big scrape had been gouged out. Also a new CV joint and new washer.
Very pleased, one happy mini and mini mum!

Hey Amy, glad it's fixed!
I had this problem a few weeks back. A bad wheel bearing took a cv out with it too. Anyway, hopefully when you say a new brake disc, you mean a pair of new brake discs, keep things nicely balanced
