a new law designed to catch scumbags who don't really get any penalty anyway.

I'm pretty sure that said 'Gangsta' didn't give me his real name, or address, and was desperate to hold onto the V5. (Which I refused) When I looked on the DVLA database about 9 months later, it hadn't been re-taxed, but the cost of the car, was so little that the tax and insurance would have been 10 or 15 times what he paid, so I guess he was prepared to take the risk. That's one car I actually regret selling, solely because I knew (in my heart) he'd be driving illegally.

It will show on the anpr. As you have got third party cover, you can carry on after showing your policy. And, yes, you can be stopped several times, but you're legal. Now you won't be.

I very much doubt that you are legal. If your insurance policy has the third party extension to allow you to drive a car not owned or hired to you then it will almost certainly specify that that other car must have it's own insurance (although that insurance might not cover you).

Fully legal, only a small handful of policies specify that any car not owned etc must have it's own insurance. The normal exclusion now is that the extension is not offered to drivers under 25.
