danrock is right, it would be pointless getting a better cam without upgrading the head too, i would consider a stage3 head first and then possibly a 276 cam aand then possibly a weber may suit you but a stage1 to a weber is too big a jump, a hif38 would be an option but twins would be best as a bolt on mod.... you wouldn't need to upgrade anything else to feel the benifits..

i have heard alot of stories about the secondary choke sticking shut amongst others from not being used so maybe this could be taking into consideration if fitting one so maybe some research is needed...

My 998 build is going to have MD266 or maybe the MD246 think this one is like the old cooper 997 cam.. Any one confirm this?

ok well like i said they are stories and i haven't used one personaly for that matter, i have a different weber, 32/32 i think it is, but opted not to use it for that reason.... with the 28/36 does the bonnet need to be raised for clearance??

Depends on the height of the air filter, i use a 28/36 on my 998cc and it fits under fine with a 45mm K&N filter on it.

And out of using Twin HS2,HIF38 and HS4 I have found the 28/36 to be better than all of them in every respect. (obviously my peronsal opinion)

The 246 and cooper 997 cam share the share intake and exhaust duration at 252/252 but the 246 boasts higher lift than the 997 cam.

The 246 is what i have gone for in my 998 build, it shares similar traits to the well known SW5 cam, being of short (relativley) duration but high lift.

The most important change to the engine will be a good cylinder head - do this first before worrying too much about the cam - and then decide which carb will suit best. But with say a 940 head and an MG Metro cam - an HIF44 on an MG Metro alloy inlet manifold will work very well indeed.

Something wrong with the HIF 44 install then - because really it's on the 'big' side for even a high power 998 - maybe the spring was too strong ? The HIF44 can pass ALL the air any 998 would want - it would not be the limiting factor for air flow if set up correctly........
