hai !

I just fitted cooper s brakes under mij 1984 mini .
I just drove it and it seems that his grip in the corners is not as good as when me drum brakes were fitted.
it also lookt that the right site of the car is 1cm higher than the left side but only at the front .

anyone got an idea what this could be?

kind regards

Well the grip problem has little to do with the brakes, although the track of the car at the front will be a little bit wider than with drums.
As for the height difference, i'd investigate the rubber suspension doughnuts. One of mine has sagged more than the other so i have corrected with my hi-lo's until funds allow a replacement part.

Did you also change your wheels to 10" and if so, what tyres did you change to?
The main reason for changing to Cooper 'S' 7.5" discs is to enable 10" wheels to go on.
1 cm height difference is not a lot really and probably not worth worrying about.

But as the front has now been spaced out more because of the disks, has the same been done to the rear?

If not you need to need to fit the longer wheel studs and rear drums with the built in 1” spacer, as fitted to all minis from late 84-85ish onwards.

hello
thanks for the responses

my mini still has his 10" original wheels.
I was also thinking of the wheel allignement. Is it possible that i have to change the toe setting of te front wheel ?
I now have the cooper s steering arms . Is there any difference with the original ones?

kind regards

Make sure all your tracking is spot on first. WHat did you change when you went from drums to disc?

i bought the kit at minisport.
this is what i installed new: 7.5" Cooper S Brake Calipers
* Brake Caliper bolts
* 7.5" Cooper S brake discs
* Cooper S Drive Flanges
* Drive Flange screws
* Mintex Standard Brake Pads and split pins
* CV Joints and boot kits
* Drive Flange Collar
* Steering Arms
* Steering Arm bolts and dowels
* Swivel Hubs
* Ball Joints
* Taper Roller Wheel Bearings
* Wheel Studs

I just bolted it on without changing anything else.

Changing all that i would advise you get the tracking done, to make sure your 'toe' is correct.

Agreed it sounds like a tracking issue, if it is out, the car will have a tendency to 'push on' as you turn into a bend (understeer). It will possibly not feel as stable in a straight line as well. I expect the steering arms on the S Hubs will be a different length or angle to the old drum ones.

I think i need to get my tracking sorted too. My car seems to have some of the symptoms mentioned above.

Then you NEED to increase the track at the rear as well, and then get the tracking checked.

By fitting disks to a previously drum braked mini the front track is now somewere over an inch each side wider than the rear.
