It's a good headunit (Kenwood), I just think it looks a bit gash personally. It had an iPod input, but selecting songs/artists is a mission on it, and the aux input obviously won't charge it. I was thinking of using the CDR500, which is a standard Vaux headunit, it will use the MFD in the dashboard, and maybe use a Dension iPod dock. Dad has one and it works really well.

Just a personal thing more than anything, I'm just not a fan of aftermarket head units in dashboards as they never seem to fit in properly.

How does the dension dock connect to a headunit?

Google doesn't appear to show anything more than the ISO connections for the unit. Can't see any input for ipod connectivity.

It appears the CDR500 will only support CD and radio. There are devices that can integrate an AUX in connectivity into the antenna socket on the back of the unit, by tuning the headunit to a pre-set frequency will play your ipod music, and then you could just use a fag lighter socket to charge the ipod. Or hard wire a cable into the car for a more OEM look leaving the ipod in the glovebox.

Yeah it works by tapping into the aerial, then tuning the radio to a pre-set signal from the dock. It's decent enough quality, and it charges the iPod up at the same time.

Maybe if there was an aftermarket head unit that looked something similar to a standard unit, then I may be tempted to go down that route with an amp.

That sounds good then. Coupled with some decent speakers it should be quite a neat install for a basic setup.
