Does anyone on here have MegaSquirt up and running on a 5 port??

I am looking into the possibility of adding it to a standard mpi, I have been on the Turbo Minis forum and found some information that seems to indicate that it is possible to use most of the standard mpi sensors etc.

Just wondering if anyone has it running and could give me a few pointers

Thanks
Mark

I think it's been done by some of the Turbo-minis crew.

Although sensors may be an issue (not tried it with standard sensors) the major issue with running megasquirt on a 5 port head is getting around the charge robbing due to shared inlet ports. There are ways to mitigate it with long inlets and lots of squirts per cylinder or a wet plenum setup. I don't think you would have any benefits over the standard setup which is designed to cope with the inlet ports configuration of the 5 port head unless you made modifications to inlet and positioning of the injectors etc.

I am in the process of building a turbo with 5 port head and MS, running a wet plenum and tuned lengths between to sets of injectors to get around the issue. Should be ready in the late spring. If it's successful I'll share the design.

According to one of the guys on Turbo Minis it is possible with many of the current MPI sensors. The charge robbing is sorted out by 'siamese code'. I just needed it explaining in simpleton terms as the guys on Turbo Minis are very technical.

Never mind, i'll keep looking

This link explains it quite well. Different ECU but same theory.

You can use siamese code but that creates other issues with having to use very big injectors to allow the squirts to be separate at high power/rpm. It's all compromise. No one right or wrong answer to it really depends on engine spec and use.

well actually they did... thats why scatter cams were invented.

but.... it works differently on FI systems to carbs... a carb regulates fuel dependant on the ampunt of fuel being droawn through it, Injection puts in the amout of fuel it thinks the engine needs, and within a "window", because of these windows the inner cylinders can steal the outer cylinders fuel but not the otherway round.

You are right. 7 Port is the proper cure, but I do like a challenge. I enjoy the process of making stuff work, plus it will be a good cheaper alternative for others without the budget for more expensive conversions. Once I've done the 5 port version of mine I'll be too tempted to resist 7 ports or crossflow/16v...

I'm fitting the SC 5 port kit, fitted the tank last week, just need to run fuel pipes and a bit of electrical string.. should be picking the kit up at Bingley if the bank balance can take it.

I can tell you a bit but, I don't know all that much myself, they Haven't even sold one yet.... they are going to bring out a MPI conversion at some point so that may be your best option, there's a video on the homepage.

Where did you buy your emerald setup from?
