Where did you buy your emerald setup from?

At a guess, Emerald?

If you are struggling with the very basics of the siamese injection system and 5 port injection now, you will be WAY out of your depth for at least two years of your time catching up, even just getting your head round a programable ECU. To tune a siamese engine properly with fuel injection you need a verg good understanding of what is required for an engine to run without damaing itself. The only advice I will give you is learn about the fueling and ignition requirements of an engine before even considering complicating the matter with siamese port injection before you have begun. There won't be anyone out there who will hand this to you on a plate and hold your hand all the way through it, as more often than not, they have put in maybe two years and a whole lot of cash.

The only other peice of advice Iwill give is - Keep the factory ECU as long as it can cope with the power levels, then and only then think about complicating things.

7ports heads are one port short of a propper engine :D :)

I am starting down this path and I am only about six months into the two years of curriculum, but I am taking it in stages. There is a tremendous amount of documentation on Megasquirt. If some of the documentation needs clarification, there are generic books that cover EFI and multiple forums.

The siamese specific info is on Turbo Minis and it will take a few months just to digest the information on that forum. I have also purchased a spare engine with additional components so I can bench test everything.

It is a learning experience, but no certificate at the end of the curriculum. I should have a much better understanding of EFI and the A series at the end, so maybe I can install a "proper engine."

7ports heads are one port short of a proper engine :) :)

I understand that you are very knowledgable when it comes to injection, however do not jump to conclusions regarding someone elses understanding of engine principles, or anything else for that matter, before you have enquired into their level of understanding.

I realise I asked what is to some a simple question, but I find your answer very offensive considering you do not know who I am, what I do or any of my past experience.

I think the reply was based on information provided:
According to one of the guys on Turbo Minis it is possible with many of the current MPI sensors. The charge robbing is sorted out by 'siamese code'. I just needed it explaining in simpleton terms as the guys on Turbo Minis are very technical.

Never mind, i'll keep looking

Thanks
Mark

The reply was also prefaced by an "if," jumping to conclusions or making assumptions on the information presented in a forum can be problematic.
Anything is possible with sufficient resources...

Thats fine then, you should be able to do this on your own. >_<

I am not the best person to answer this, but the simple answer is yes it is possible and several people posting on turbominis have done this and shared their results. Not many have used the MPi as a base engine and many have adapted sensors as needed to meet their purposes. I plan to use the Rover sensors as much as possible. I purchased the MS over two months ago, but I have not started the assembly yet as I am rereading the documentation and making sure I know how to implement the customizations I have chosen.

The Mega Squirt is a mature open source DIY engine control system. The system can be adapted to many purposes. It has a proto area that allows the use of custom circuits or additional boards can be purchased from third party suppliers such as Jean Belanger.

I am actually hoping I can modify one of the DIY PNP ECUs from autosportlabs for use on the a series. It is a matter of finding one that incorporates all the circuits needed for the a series and using a custom connector into the loom. The DIY PNP devices have a nice small form factor that suits an a series engine bay.

When I make progress I will share additional information.

You should start some sort of project thread when you get started, I owuld be very interested to see how you get on. Thanks very much.

Nice to see there is some genuine people out there interested in sharing and helping rather than just shooting others down

I think there are quite a few on the TurboMinis forum who are genuine and have been working on this for quite a while and have invested a lot of money in it and shared their information widely on that forum.

But they don't take prisoners over on that forum.... as your post over there has demonstrated.

If you had actually done as they suggested you would have easily found the minor changes required for the MPI setup, I've documented it myself over there several times for others.

Try reading what Sprocket said above as you will need to understand the basic issues first.

An arrogant attitude gets you nowhere on any forum.

So enjoy developing it by yourself.

I am not being arrogant, there were plenty of helpful posts on the first page of this thread of which I have learnt from. If you look at the title of this thread it is "Anyone got megasquirt up and running on a five port", I was not asking about how it works but if anyone had a up and running setup on this forum.

I then asked if it was possible to use any of the current mpi sensors, to which i now understand that some of them will need changing

I found the response to my question of where an emerald setup was purchased, "At a guess, Emerald", to be arrogant.
Does everyone purchase their Cobra seats from Cobra? No.
Does everyone purchase their Green Stuff pads from EBC? No.
I was unaware of the places that sold the Emerald setup, I now know that it can be bought direct, but also it can be bought through MED aswell, I would expect there are other stockists too. It was an innocent enough question.

Then it was assumed that i did not know the basic problem of charge robbing that is encountered when changing the ECU to a programmable setup. I am well aware of this problem and have a rough idea of the possible ways around it, however, I am no expert and i know that a lot of further research is needed.

I started this thread to simply find out if there was anyone on the forum with a working Megasquirt setup, and possibly find out how they had implemented it, not start an argument. I would appreciate it if this was the end of the argument and we could return to the original question.

Thanks
Mark

I don't know if anyone on the TMF forum is using the MS2 with the siamese code (I don't really participate on TMF) but a few of us are on the TurboMinis forum.

I have updated the question you posted there with the actual answers.

But the response you first got on TurboMinis isn't that surprising to me as I (and the others involved) have answered the question several times before so a simple search would have provided the answer.

However, as Sprocket has pointed out, this is not a simple subject.

Anyone can fuel inject an A-Series engine - throttle body, wet manifold, or even port injection but, 9 times out of 10, the end result will have worse fuel distribution than an SU.

I have updated the reply on TurboMinis with some additional information to try and make it a reference for anyone who asks over there in the future.
