Since the other guy hasnt responded and you seem to know a lot aswell, what is the real difference between the coopers and the non coopers? Is this something I should look more into and make sure I get a cooper? Or does the cooper become more of a status thing then a real performance/advantage type of thing.

Sorry! Was on my way home from work, luckily the strength in depth means you got the answer you needed.

Cooper was fast, but is more status, you can make a mini quicker then a cooper by picking the right bits, I did with my 85 mayfair, and will do again with my Hornets, maybe...

What about trying to find a 998 Engine with a stage 1 kit...60mph would be around 3000 RPM in 4th.. with a 3.1 Final Drive

Do you have link or a photo of the mini your thinking of buying??

check this section out : http://www.theminifo...hp?showforum=61 this has all the different engine conversions people do in the uk, maybe you could find something that you can get hold of in the states , and then spend a bit of time doing the swap, the easy option is the 1275 option , but if they are hard to come by in the states then , an complete engine conversion maybe in order

hope it helps :)

Just an opinion from a Stateside Mini owner. I'm not sure I'd recommend using a classic Mini on the interstate, or and other busy multi-lane highways. I was comfortable doing it in the UK, here... not so much. Other traffic is way larger, and drivers are so much less aware of what's going on around them. Add that to 18 wheeler drivers who've driven non-stop for 15 hours.

I tend to use the Mini for commuting the backroad routes, the cars are so much better suited to those roads.

Good luck with the engine swap.
