I've just got a PS2 slimline and i'm wanting to install into the mini  Currently I’ve got a Pioneer headunit, JBL amp and all my speakers are powered through the amp. How can I wire in the PS2 slimline, along with a TV, into my current system so that all sound is played on the speakers? Ay help will be much appreciated.

Cheers, Jam2005

Does the Head unit have an AUX input. If not. Forget it.

You could wire it direct to the amp (From the playstation) but it will not have a volume control of any kind.

As for wiring in the TV, All it needs is a +, A -, And a Video feed from the PS2.

If you got aux inputs then phono for audio goes into the inputs, the video output goes to the screen and you need a 8.5v power supply. I do not know if there are available yet, they were "coming out shortly" last time i checked if not available then you need a voltage invertor to power the PS2 and convert 12v to 240v, but they do drain shed loads of power

Check ebay for cigarette lighter power lead for the slim ps2 as it needs 8.5v.

So if the invertor is the way to go.
This wires direct to the battery (you will get one from Maplin amongst many other places) they tend to have a switch on them so if you leave it on your going to end up with a flat battery.

So I would reccommend wiring it up through a relay connected to the ignition.
When ignition is off then so is the invertor.

Wiring the relay itself is easy
4 wires..

1 earth
1 from the switched live (stereo wire or somthing)
1 from the battery and
1 to the invertor

If you did not have aux input you can still do it using an FM modulator (about £19)
you tune your radio to the preset station and it picks up the ps2 sound signal.

clicky me for the stuff

found this to save you using an inverter.

Just cut the cigarette connector off and add a switch and hard wire it in.

i've got a diagram for the pins on a pioneer, you can make your own lead to do the aux, i did and it works fine and cost me about £3 to make.

Not strictly true, most games have a volume control of their own

That's great. Will save me purchasing a power invertor :cheese:

How about using one of these for the AUX input into the HU? Clicky

what ever u do dont get the 12v - 240v inverter!, i have just an hour ago witnessed the un needed power it withdraws, it actually drained the battery with the engine running, u can buy straight 12v - 8.5v inverters saving this sort of drain, check ebay, as they pop up on there regularly

You could just save the hassle of making up leads by buying an FM Modulator. Sure, maybe not a great ultra-permanent route, but they're good none-the-less. Basically it wires in series with your aeriel line in, and you plug your audio input straight in. Then you tune one of your radio memories to a certain frequency.. 87.1mhz, I think.. Then whenever you want to play PlayStation, you hit the memory that you programmed into.

Maplin do them for about 20 quid.. I'll try and find a link.

EDIT: Maplin item number: L75AY

yeah fm modulators aren't great, they are better than nothing obviously but should only be considered if there is no other option.

I'll post the aux diagram just as soon as i find it lol
