i would really like to get the mk1 grille and the bumper with the over riders etc. but is a whole new bonnet required to do the conversion from a 1992 cooper?
no just the removal of the lip on the front of the bonnet

You can buy a genuine mk1 bonnet, but good luck in getting the hinges bolted up, they are in completely different places.i would really like to get the mk1 grille and the bumper with the over riders etc. but is a whole new bonnet required to do the conversion from a 1992 cooper?
Instead open your bonnet, remove the chrome trim (6 or so screws or rivets) and then drill out the spot welds and remove the bottom lip and paint. The big problem though is the chrome trim is great at collecting water/grime and so helps hide any rot. So in the worst case you might find the bonnet behind it is a little on the crusty side.
