1993 Mini Cooper

I have a leak into the drivers side front footwell.

The water is coming from inside the box section that runs across the car under the front seats and is running down the grooves in the floor.

Any ideas where this might be getting into the box section in the first place?

It happens when the car is parked. Its always parked slightly down hill but the leaking has only just started.

Cheers

Window seals, door seals, bonnet / bulkhead seal, wheelarch / front of sill rot, or heater matrix are usual culprits for water in footwells. Water wont be coming up through the box section

It's definately coming into the box section somewhere, as due to the angle the car is parked on you can see it trickling out towards the front of the car and the rear footwells are dry. My guess is that it is coming in through the sill somewhere, maybe under the seam trim. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and had any suggestions.

when I had a similar leak it was coming from the bolts holding the seat belt clippers in, added a washer an it stopped!

jack it up and see if you have what looks like any corrdoded bits on the floor and give it a poke, i had a similar problem, and found i had a hole in the floor, and it was coming up because of road spray/puddles, although you couldnt see it till i poked through with a screwdriver

It's only coming in when it's standing, so it's not spray related.......

Thanks for the suggestion though :)

in which case sit inside the car, and get someone to spray a hose continuously on certain bits of the car, door seal, window seal etc, and you should eventually see it trickle in somewhere

I will do that again at the weekend. Thought I'd found the leak using this method last weekend, but it appears there are several. It could take a while to find as I don't imagine it gets to where it is coming from in the box section particularly fast.

Cheers

I've checked all around the door etc and there is no signs of water around the seals or in the rear footwell. This is why it is confusing me!

My current idea, which I will check out at the weekend is that it is getting in along the sill joint behind the rubber trim piece that runs under to door. Maybe some seam sealer along this joint might help......

After further investigation I think the water is getting into the sill, and then fom there into the car.

When the car isstanding where can water enter the sill?

I'm going to check the door strike plate is properly sealed and that the drain holes underneath are not blocked.

Any suggestions as to where it could be getting into the sill?

Thanks

Hi, still getting this problem. So any suggestions as to where the water may be entering the sill while the car is standing. I'm out of ideas.

I've re-sealed to door strike plate.

Thanks

What sort of sills do you have fitted?

As far as I know they are standard, with 6 drainage slots/flutes.

Okay thats a good start compared to oversills! Is the water in the recess between the inner and outer sills? Mine leaked here once. The sill recess would fill up with water, and then come in through the holes in the inner sill. The holes are small rectangles, plugged with a rubber plug. They sit midway between the crossmember and the front and back of the door if I remember correctly. Could be worth checking them. Under this problem, my car also appeared to have water appearing under the crossmember.
