I had to fix issues with the turn indicator stalk and on hindsight, it seemed possible to access the mechanism without disturbing the wiper stalk. But now I'm stuck with this:

I am usually careful and methodical in disassembly but this one just came apart when I loosened the 3 screws. It looks simple enough but I can't figure out how to position the lever spring and tiny brass cylinder.

Any tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Oops. I have been there. :)

From what i remember the little brass barrel/cylinder should have a spring to acompany it, and it pokes in to the end of the plastic section on the end of the stalk. You then have to very frustratingly and trickily push the whole stalk round, locating the spring in the correct place (With the two spring tines located opposite and loaded to where they sit in that photo) while making sure the barrel hasn't fallen out and screwing in the 3 screws you took out.

It's tricky but doable as long as you havent lost any bits.

I wish you good luck.

Thanks so much GregH!

Meanwhile I kept fiddling with the bits and through the help of a friend this is what I came up with:

The looks the same as mine.

Is it stiff? Or does it move fairly well?
Particuarly the flick for one wipe only?

Glad to help

Hi GegH,

It is working fine! I needed access to the turn indicator stalk mechanism which has issues. But I think I have it all figured out.

Thanks!

Hi lads, same has happened me. Wipers wouldn't stop working when told to sotook the stalk apart to see what was the matter and, what í always dread happened - a spring sprang out like a Jack-in-the-box. I wouldlove to know how to re-asemble the stalk and would appreciate the photomentioned sent to vodonnell@eircom.net . thanks

http://www.theminifo...hp/t136204.html, what goes around comes around - but if your wipers were doing that I don't think it's be the stalk :)

If they're not stopping it's probably the park switch on the motor.

Thanks for the response and in particular that photo. I managed to get all back together but without the spring. So everything works except the one wipe function which probably needs the spring to complete the circuit. Seems to me its a case where 4 hands are required and a very fiddly job at that. How are these things assembled in the factory? Vincie

Ethel thanks for that link, I've just read the explanation at the bottom and its full of helpful info. Will have another go at assembling correctly on Monday - till then there's nothing but excitement!
