Maybe there was a problem with your colour on your monitor before you submitted it, making you think it was ok.

I always try for around 200-250k,
normally the image i work on is larger but 'save as' a copy at a resized sized for posting on the net, just makes life easier, upload/download speed etc plus uses less space in your attachments allowence
