The photos show the bolts Hubba.Hubba sourced and fitted later, they aren't tightened because he wanted to see any movement.

Yep

Actually looks like they haven't even tightened them up properly to me, but I do think 3 would be pushing it. If all the bolts where tight, i'd expect the wok to bend & crack.

The bolt you can see is one I put in. It does flex with 3 bolts missing.

Sounds like you are lucky to be still with us.

lol over reaction much? surely worst thing that could ever happen is your unable to disengage the clutch and your stranded for a couple of hours until AA reach you...unless you dont have AA and you starve to death, or you step out the car after stopping because you cant engage a gear and your mullered by a passing bus, or you are pecked to death by vultures who for some reason have made there way to the UK....holy cow ur lucky to be alive :-

I think cooperrodeo was replying to the chap who had the flywheel bolt missing. Still not sure what happens if the flywheel comes off whilst rotating, does it fly through the car like a circular saw? :-

i was only having a joke anyway

flywheel, if it were to come off completly, without a doubt would come off in some direction through the housing, who knows which way though, depends if it went off centre. Although my flywheel bolt has worked itself loose before dispite smothering it in locktight what actualy happened is the flywheel microwelded itself to the crank :-

I'd follow what Guessworks said and put them in, they didn't make 5 bolt holes so you can choose which ones you like then made 5 because it needed 5. I don't know how many there really are just using said number as an example

Upon an investigation with a problem with my clutch, following a recent installation by an 'A series specialist' I have found they were good enough to only put top half of the 5 bolts and not to put back the 3 most awkward bolts at the bottom of the clutch/flywheel cover (near the engine mount). When I sourced 3 more bolts and fitted them, I found my clutch seemed to go too far and would catch.
It got me thinking what could be the problem and the only thing I could think of was flex in the cover (the WOK) when the bottom 3 bolts weren't fitted, when I dis-engaged the clutch.

I got the misses to sit in the car to engage and disengage the clutch .............I was surprised how much flex there was! About a 2mm gap appeared!

The moral of the story is check your bolts at the bottom of the clutch housing cover (oh and make sure an 'A series specialist' is a proper 'A series specialist' when you use them)

Any comments appreciated. Cheers.

The purpose of this topic was to show there is flex in the wok with 3 bolts missing (which some people might have). As soon as I noticed they hadn't been fitted I installed some. Cheers

at the flywheel coming off, my dad had a similair thing happen, he had in the later 70's a tuned 998 and the clutch was slipping so to burn off the oil 7000rpm and dump the clutch in 3rd gear to heat it up to burn off the oil, but after doing this 4/5 times the lightened pressure plate shot to peices and whn throught the transfer casing then some out of the grill some throught the lower part of the subframe and 1 peice when flying striaght up throught the bonnet! that was the last time he ran a mini with a diy lightened pressure plate ( he put it in a lathe and halfed the thickness)

so take care people
