The problem I have found is that when you push the clutch housing and seal over the crank there is a tendency for the seal to be pushed inside out

You would know if it wasn't sitting properly like so :)

Yours looks fine, but as said already, they always look fine! :w00t: I replaced it with a minispares one after that, and plenty of masking tape around the splines as its easy to cut up the new seal when passing it over if you aint careful, used a tiny bit grease between the plastic flinger and new seal had 10k of driving leak free

It looks like the flywheel has been fretting on the tail, this will not help in any way at all, as it will cause the tail to whip up and down so causing a worse leak, also do NOT use an injection oil seal they are great on standard engines but cannot cope with higher hp engines again due to the crank whipping.

Always lap the flywheel on to the tail, however if your tail is damaged you really need to sort out another crank and flywheel.

Most likely caused by shoddy work :(

I really don't think there is anything wrong with your oil seal... and it's certainly not the cause of your clutch problem. Was there a stepped washer present - securing the flywheel to the crank ?? As MRA suggests - you can try lapping the flywheel onto the crank tail - it 'may' be ok. Start with fine valve grinding paste - and finish off with (paint) cutting compound - and clean and degrease both surfaces carefully (use carb cleaner = toluene) - and cross your fingers...........

Is it me or is the oil seal sticking out quite a bit? They are usually recessed in a lot more?

oil seal has now been changed. There has been damage to the housing where the outer part of the seal butts up to, thanks to the local 'A series specialist'. Pic's taken (for the file) and now repaired. Hopefully that will now seal!

I can't see you sticking out at all, so it must be the oil seal .... :(

I've have now fitted the correct non verto stepped washer. The previous one fitted was the small verto type and the lock tab was not even tapped in. It was just acting as a flat washer really. The bolt could have easily just come undone!

The world is full of A series specialists, a majority of them should be allowed to own a tool set let alone a use them on someones car. The Governemnt is considering bringiing out a legislation to stop this sort of thing from happening in the future.

No, but it could have done if left.

FYI here's a better pick of the old oil seal.

It transpires this 'specialist' has made a habit of bodging.

Compared to the one I have now fitted with the minispares special tool, yes it was sticking out.
