I have 1098 clubman and as an everyday car it is brilliant. What you need to look at is the rev range that the car is in most periods of driving. In normal road use you will not be red linning the engine all the time. Just my 2p's worth. I have a 998 and feel the 1098 is a better all rounder. But everyone has their own opinions.

My last clubman was a 1098, it had same setup as my mates 998, both of us run twin HS2 with LCB and loud pipe, mine would out pace him on everything and without sounding like it was being thrashed to death.
I have just got hold of another 1098 to put in my current car and will give it subtle mods as think as long as you respect the fact you shouldnt redline it then it will be fine, too many people here and elsewhere jump on the band wagon of what one so called expert will say about a thing without ever bothering to find out for themselves how something actually performs.
