Is the door sitting in to wind now with the new seals fitted?? if so you could try and reposition the doors by moving the hinges in slightly. With the gap on the window frame you could slightly bend in the frame, they are flexible but be gentle.

Also the catch on the rear door frame can be adjusted to pull the back of the door in slightly.

hello thanks, i looked at the hinges and they look like they are fully up against the door. also i tried adjusting the window and it put a crack in the weld where the window fame connects near the hinges. it also scratched the window when i rolled it up and down to see if it would affect it. lol so ye oopies that begginers for you :) ill have to have a professional look at it all ^_^

Not good, they have a habit of cracking at the window frame to door skin in that area. Both doors on Erm were cracked when we got him but that problem is long gone. The hinges where they go through the A post is where you can adjust them. It will require taking the nuts off and the spreader plate on the wheel arch side of the flitch panel to see if you have any slack in the A post hinge holes. If not you can open them up or slot them then you can refit the doors and move the front in a touch.

Before you attempt this you will need to soak the hinge nuts with plenty of WD40 or GT85 to try and prevent the hinge studs from shearing off.

For the window to scratch how much did you try and bend the frame?? that should not have happened as plenty of people have done it without damage to the window.

before you start moving hinges and causing a poor gap and alignment between the door and apex panel look at the seal around the door opening, its far easier to bend the flange with the seal on to fit up tight against the door frame.

The reason why i mentioned adjusting the hinges is if the door front edge is slightly proud then by making it flush this may cure the problem. If the door is proud then bending the flanges in would not be the way to go.

We have no photos to judge what the problem with the door is so purely going on what has been written as an explanation.

That is quite a gap, can you take a photo of the door leading edge where it meets the A panel and also one of the rear of the window frame, try taking a photo of the window frame by looking forward at the frame to see how much if any its protruding.

Hi Matt,
Do you know if the doors have been re-skinned, sometimes during the process the frames move slightly causing the gap, You can wind down the window, open the door & gently try pushing the corner in towards the car (Does help if you have an assistant) It will move but be gentle, might have to do it a couple of times to sort the gap out. Dont push it in to far otherwise you will struggle to close the window.

Pretty much as requested just the door panel itself where it meets the quarter panel. Judging by those photo's the door does not look too bad but if the door is hard against the seal along the bottom and sides of the door then some slight adjustment of the door hinges maybe enough to close the gap at the top.

I have reskinned, repaired the bottoms of both doors and had to cut around the window frames to make the doors fit really well and to contact the seal all round.
The hinge holes in the A post were enlarged on both sides to give me some extra adjustment and also adjusted the door latch itself. This also included shimming the hinges as well.

A real pain in the neck but we got there in the end. The doors fit flush with the A panels and rear quarters.

Do you know if the door seals are brand new or the original ones??

reeto, so are the hinges detachable on the mini its self or is it the part of the hinge to the door. as i checked and i could only see screws connecting the hinge on the door and some rivites connecting the hinge to the car  if that makes sence.

erm im guessing they are new becuase all round the garage spend £900 odd pound on reconditioning the car  and made a loss selling it to me woop:P

Ok the hinges are screwed to the door and bolted to the the A post via studs on the hinges. If you have a look in each front wheel arch and look back you will see two sets of nuts. These are the hinge mounts and these are what you can adjust, not the screws that hold the hinges on to the door.

If you decide to go this route you must soak these nuts with GT85 or WD40 as the studs on the hinges have a habit of shearing but if the garage has re skinned the doors then they should be ok but do spray them anyway.

Its best to have two people to do this job also put some masking tape on the edge of the door and A panel to protect your paint. Make yourself a couple of reasonably strong plastic shims or levers to put along the bottom of the door and door step to enable you to keep the door level when you go to re fit it. Again put masking tape along the door edge to protect the paint.

The door is not too heavy but be careful. There may be shims under the hinges where it meets the A post, do not lose them and do not forget to fit them.
Have a play around with the door to see if you can tighten the gaps, if there is not enough play in the A post holes then open them up a little bit DO NOT GO MAD.

Its really down to you on this bit as to have far you want to go with the adjustment. Just be careful and be patient.

To give you an idea this is what i used to do the doors on Project Erm

The two studs you can see with the shim are what you can adjust on the A post

Hope this helps
