I have a 1992 Mini open classic Im going to fit a HIF44 Carb Mini Sport water heated Alloy inlet manifold, just trying to decide on maifold and selection ive read that maniflow is the best choice but thats a bit out of my price range so been looking at sportex.
Heres the lcb manifold ive picked http://www.minisport...fo_PHBPPM1.html
this exhaust system http://www.minisport...HBXT17DTM2.html
i understand with the DTM rear box theres a slight power loss but i like the appearance of it has anyone ever used this setup whats it like

Have a look at rc40 exhausts, they are one of the best exhausts for the mini. A 2" exhaust isnt rly ideal.

Ye thats right and thats the size of an rc40, as with sound i believe they are quite nice, but you will get a better sound from a wider exhaust in my opinion. But do you want a to sacrifice power for sound. A question you should pissibly ask is what sort of power difference will it make?

The top and bottom of it was won the car at Mini in the Park last August, I have been doing work on it over the year Apart from the general service renewed front discs and pads rear shoes cylinders cables fitted hi-lows and up rated to gas shocks.
Now i want to get the most out of the engine it currently has rc4o rear box on ive also found out that the CAT can be removed ive bought a HIF44 carb so just really seeing what would be the best way to go forward just been looking at the stage 1 tuning kit

well if your after more power then the first thing to do is buy your self a decent LCB, new needle for the carb and a stage 1 spring for the carb. think its the red spring, and decent inlet manifold. the next step i took was to then put a good ported and polished head on with enlarged valves. if you wanted to take the engone out then you start looking into CAMs and larger cylinders. but if the engine is running well i wouldnt bother, you will see a noticable difference in powere with a stage 1 kit and head. further to that you can start looking at removing weight, carpets, sound deadening material etc.

So does increased bore reduce power?

Lucky git! I entered that draw, was a nice car.

As for exhaust, you say you've got an RC40 backbox already? Ring minispares, since they make the RC40, and get an lcb and link pipe that'll fit. You don't need a cat.

From what i have come to understand from reading various topics and talking to various people the optimum exhaust bore size for a mini is 1.75" and you will start to loose power with a larger bore. As to what sort of power loss will be achieved i dont know. But i doubt it will be anything significant on anything other than a race car. I may be wrong and would appreciate it if anyone reading this thread would be able to offer a better explination.

Check out Min-Its for prices on Maniflow exhausts - I got a new Maniflow exhaust and centre pipe from them for just over £50 IIRC
