Hey Cat, welcome to TMF, nice looking little mini you have there :) why is she not working, whats up with her?

Alex

Hi Alex, thank you! >_< She has a broken starter motor and her gear box needs stripping down as first gear doesn't work :) I haven't ever tackled anything on a car before so any advice is really appreciated- how difficult would that be for a novice to do (my brother is great with cars but hasn't got the time at the moment)?

Well to replace the starter motor is a piece of cake, id highly recommend a haynes manual (assuming you don't have one already?) Gearbox wise, guy on here called guessworks is a mini gearbox specialist, he is the man to talk too really! As your in devon will you be coming to newquay for the riviera run in may?

Got a haynes manual, so I'll have a read up :) I have spoken to guessworks and he was very helpful, sounds like a bearing has gone or something...so hopefully won't be too bad! I'm afraid May will see me back at Uni, but hopefully next year when Midge is back on the road I'll be able to do the riviera run, that'd be amazing :)

yeah worth a good read up, it is literally a case of just disconecting the battery, then disconecting the starter motor, and 2 bolts to remove it from the engine :) will make alot more sense once its infront of you and you are doing the job. Riviera run is well worth doing, especially for all them lovely views in cornwall, just under 3 weeks untill we leave for the west country :)
