Was thinking... has the GL1800 engine ever been used in a mini conversion? If it fits theres a certain sense there - shaft drive would make for a neat RWD setup and it would be smooth and torquey.

Comments anyone?

Quite a lot of torque!
They've got a reverse gear on them already!
I'd imagine a Gold Wing is closer in weight to a mini than an R1 or a CBR
Shaft driven bikes are often used for trike set ups as it's easier to fit a diff
But, they don't rev like a sport bike engine does!

Those engines are bigger than you think. A while back I had thought of the same thing, but a few measurements found that the engine would take up most all room where front suspension and steering need to be. Even an older 4 cylinder version is big, and the BMW boxxer engines too are really tall. It's hard to beat an inline 4 for compact engine and trans.
