my first question, mine has a crack between the valves on #1 cylinder i know it can be fixed but should i have it fixed?
second question, i was going to upgrade head later should i just do it now anyway, is there a cylinder head you recomend?
i am aiming for around 6/8 psi on the road and 10/12 psi boost max

I'd replace the head with an upgraded 1. Try an Avonbar one like stage 3 or have Mike Barrat at MBE do one for you :oneeye:

I had a modified head fixed once, but it just cracked again. Maybe in a nat asp motor it would have lasted, but it sees a bit more heat in a Turbo.
Anyway if your heads standard i wouldn't bother getting it fixed, put the money toward a new, nicely modded one.
Phil.

so how much more power would you expect to see from a stage 3 than a stage 2 turb head?
would a stage 3 turbo head be ok for everyday use do u think, the rest of the engine is all set up for the job? or would it be a bit on the wild side?
cheers

I'm prob to late but just seen this post.
I have heads welded up and if done well they do last, but it's not a quick or easy job, as they have to heat the head up to cherry red and them weld it, this in turn means you need all new plugs in the head and a skim.

Though as Miniwilliams said, more so with blocks, it will need re machining, so only worth while if its RARE or EXPENSIVE to replace
I enquired about about the repair of a 1275s block i aquired that was cracked at the main bearing journals. They said they could do it no problem and it would be as good as new, but, and it was a big but, the cost for re machining as well as the crack repair was greater than a 1275s block in good order to start.
