I wouldn't bother. Some cars look ok with rough and ready paint jobs, but Mini's don't (IMO).

who says roller painting has to be rough and ready ?

Vinyl wrapping looks great but I don't like the idea of what's happening to the metal under it... is it possible to repair small sections when Granny inevitably reverses to it at Tescos?

ever considered vinyl wrapping mate im doing my whole mini in 3d carbon fibre vinyl and its costing me about half what the spray job would have

Being a signmaker myself i have considered wrapping the roof and bonnet of the mini, however vinyl wrapping is made to cover good condition paint and probably wouldnt stick too well to my mini anyway as its now sanded down and dull, vinyl sticks best to glossy surfaces!. The mini they did on wheeler dealers that they wrapped was a piece of crap, loads of rust left and i felt sorry for the young lad who bought it as he would have had alot of work to do in the near future.

Just rolled a thin coat of hammerite hammered red onto my bootlid, to be honest i quite like it and will put another coat on later and then upload a pic. It is quite expensive paint at £20 a litre, however cellulose car paint is £17 a litre and with hammerite you dont need primer. Will have to wait and see how it works over body filler though, maybe i'll have to prime the filler first?

Hi
Pop along to your local auto paint supplier; tell them what you are trying to do,

I’ve used coach enamel cost’s around £25 for 5lts more then enought for a mini thinned 60/40
Small roller for the large areas and brush around the fiddly bits,
Take your time and pick a warm day.

Obviously if you repaint with any other type of paint it will pickle off.
Good luck and post before and after photos so we can see.

The Dulux one of mine, plus the silver one next to it was also roller painted.

Very nice  go'es to show that with skill something nice can be achieved cheaply.
I've chosen hammered paint so that it has a sort of textured look to it, at the end of the day its my mini and if i don't want it to look like every other plain old mega money spent trailered around, bubble wrapped and never driven toy then so be!

Second coat went on before and its getting better coverage, one more coat should make it all one even colour, will do that tomorrow and then take some pics ;)
