Well this looks like a lovely project, well done. The race alternator is the way to go. I use one on my race car and its very compact with a high output. Was just wondering if your cooling system is up to the job with all of the extra power that you will be making. I have an ally front mounted rad with an electric water pump. It cooled my full race 1380 5 port to the point that i had to tape some of the fins off so that it ran warmer lol. I am just waiting for my KAD full race motor to arrive and reckon i'll need all the cooling i can get.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the comments. It was all a bit tight with the standard alternator but it does fit.

As far as cooling is concerned im just going for an Alloy rad to start off with and see how it runs (side mount) KAD said id be ok. For road i think most people keep the original fan and also have a electric fan aswell to switch on and off when needed, its hard when doing one of these conversions as theres not many people on the net whove done one and got one running. I think youd get away with a side mount Rad for sprinting too, depending on how long the track is and how long you blasting it for, but most people ive seen tend to use a front mount.

Post some pictures up on here when your engines back will love to see it. Have you gone All steel bottom end and the big valve head?

Yes i've gone all steel, big valve, daft money full race. But it is for a race car. As far as your cooling is concerned i'm sure you'll be ok, but if not i can help you to get it cooled. I would always recommend an electric water pump, when i fitted mine to the racer it immediately ran 10 degrees cooler with no other modification, i presume due to the efficiency of the pump compared to a good mini mechanical pump. My reason for extra cooling is because my car is designed to be flat out nearly all the time, therefore i had a custom made ally radiator built and it works wonders. It was a huge job to get it in though, smaller brise starter, small alternator, remote oil filter, twin yamaha R1 electric fans. Luckily it was built knowing that i was going to put a kad 16 valve motor in. Heres a pic of it with the 5 port in.

Very nice engine! nearly as nice as my 16v K build, lol. Do you need to use a bonnet with a bulge in it to clear the head?

It should do!! looks very tidy Fibreglass or Carbon Fibre? I'm tempted to get one for mine, although the standard bonnet does just clear the head
