dont want to put a roof on a roof as it would seem a bodge although ive seen how the stig fits them ive got to say they do look good not putting his work down but surely fibreglass rooves are only for race cars for light ness as they surely wouldnt be as strong?

Roof on a roof is stronger!!

If you don't want to "bodge it " as you call it then you need to fit a new heritage roof skin - hope you have deep pockets.

Personally I think welding up a sunroof hole is a bodge!!

As the others have said- welding up the hole isn't worth thinking about, be easier to find a scrap mini with a good roof and cut it off and replace yours as Cooperman said.
