Hi,

the throttle pedal on my mini is very sensitive...
is this normal?
if not, what can I do about it?

thanks!

i guess it just depends on what you're used to driving. it's only a cable operated directly from the pedal to the butterfly on the carb (assuming you have a carb) so theres no adjustment available to the sensitivity.

If i'm wrong i'm sure someone will correct me!

i know with a HIF44 carb, the way it works is designed to give you more control at low throttle and less at high throttle because of the shape of the 'butterfly lever'

I suppose the cable could be a bit tight...
although there is a tiny bit of play in the pedal which suggests it might not be the cable...
I think

What model, carburettor etc? Can you also be more specific about the problem - we'd all love a Mini that kicks up 'n goes with little persuasion when cruising in 4th, I imagine that's not what you're concerned about somehow :D

If it's from near idle, it could be an induction air leak - the effect becomes less as the throttle opens.

If it's just the instant you touch the go pedal, you might need to look at your engine stabiliser(s) & mountings.

Of course, those dinky pedals don't have as much travel as most of the big, lardy, modern motors either.

Ditto, the sticky/tight cable and or pedal others have suggested too.

the cable is supposed to be tight. you dont want slack in it. otherwise you'll get nothing until the cable goes tight, then the same sensitivity as you had before!

There should be a small amount of slack in the cable otherwise heat expansion and every minor jolt, bump or twist (it's a Mini, there's plenty of those!) will interfere with the idle.

you should have a quadrant on your carburettor that eases the way the cable pulls on the actuator (spindle)

Check to make sure you've got oil in the dash pot and renewing it could help with some thicker stuff.

how much should be in the dashpot?
and how can I tell when I've got enough?

Hi,

the throttle pedal on my mini is very sensitive...

Stop picking on it then. We can all be sensitive at some time or another, a nice warm loving hug may help.
