Basically I currently have nothing in my mini. I have ordered a head unit, http://www.halfords....tegoryId_165474 ,and now just need the speakers to go along with it. Basically i just wondered what people would reccommend, and where they would put them. I can cut holes in my parcel shelf, but not sure about the metal bulk beneath it. Then I would rather run them without a separate amp, any help would be great. ^_^
Cheers
Danny

well putting speakers in your parcel shelf is not going to create a good sound stage, think about a Gig, the speakers are infront of you - that is how recorded music is intended to be heard.

So we want (ideally) for the speakers to be infront of you. common positions would be in door pockets (specifically designed for a speaker) or under the dash rail/ on the wheel arches.

Seen as you do not want to amplify i would just go for 'co axial speakers'.

Would you consider amplifying? and what is your budget so i can help furthur.

ALSO, read this - http://www.theminifo...howtopic=191133

EDIT: it is also not necessary to bump after 30mins with no reply.

my budget is not massive, i just want a set of speakers, and then wire them up to my head unit and just use them like that. Probably around £50 for the speakers. I just thought parcel shelf, cus i believed it would be easiest.

SQ this... sound stage that... cross over at this frequency....

look... simple a couple of 17cm speakers on the rear deck and a couple of 10cm speakers in the front vents... some cheap FLi jobbies or some nice alpines will sort you out a treat... not to hard either just make sure you buy way to much speaker cable.. because no matter how much you think you need, it wont be enuff!

Ok so for £50, just go for something like this - http://www.caraudiod...e-spg-17c2.html . anything from a decent brand will be OK.

If you end up using the parcel shelf (which i dont recommend) then you could go for 6x9's which will give better bass response, e.g. http://www.caraudiod...vn-csv6947.html

if would put speakers upfront then Optimise Automotive do a pod to help : http://www.optimise-...spaceshops.com/

yes the 6x9s will be a bit better at bass but you more then likely already have the holes for the 17cms.. or 13cm...

give us a couple pics of your dash and rear deck with out the carpet on it...

i take it you just want to listen to a bit of music wen drivin to work and back yeah?

Completely unnecessary comment and one that makes you sound like a philistine unfortunately.

Some clearly take audio/car audio more seriously than others. Some just want cheap sound in their car.
Each to their own.
But with an open question asking for recommendations then there is nothing wrong with giving a person as much info as possible and let them decide what to do with the knowledge.

There are a few things that are for technical reasons wrong when installing car audio, but most advice is recommendation base on personal preference.
And then there are the best practice basics of Sound Stage, Speaker placement and Cross over setup which are based on the consensus of expert opinion, this you seemed to find is necessary to mock?

.. no.. but by reading the OP the guy just wants some speakers to listen to a bit of music in his car while driving to work...

if he had said.." ok lads, ive got an idea...iv got a budget of £500 and want a system that i can listen to ac/dc on as i love my music.."

then i would have every intention of giving him my opinion on the best speakers for the vocals and where up front they should go.. the fact its rock so thas not really to much of a need for a sub as its mostly in the 100hz up range to which its play so a nice amped set up with a 40hz subsonic filter built in would work a real treat and then my opinin on the brands to go for and how to set up the EQ...

BUT... he didnt.. sometimes info overload can be a little confussing to some people rather then start suggesting what we like.. maybe we should find out what he wants/ikes first?

im not trying to start a fight here.. but he ask a very simple question to which it deserves a very simple answer ^_^ :dontgetit: :w00t:  :teehee: :)

.. now lets stop being a bunch of big girls and go for a pint...

Combined with a steak and this thread gets about as manly as it comes.

Agreed. But

but by reading the OP the guy just wants some speakers to listen to a bit of music in his car while driving to work...

He didn't say that, he asked for a open ended recommendation.

,and now just need the speakers to go along with it. Basically i just wondered what people would recommend, and where they would put them.

Which he got, But then he did clarify and also gave budget... Then he got a more targeted answer...

any-hoo, :D lol
