Well I'd heard that it's just a logbook restoration and the car is a fake, oh and the bloody MCR in their amazing capacity have pointed this out to the BBC, so it's all on hold at present.
But that could just be rumours and I do hope it gets a good restoration job anyway.

You would have thought that the beeb would have checked it thoroughly with the heritage centre first, who obviously have all the details of the coopers.

So after all that, the BBC have brought and undertaken restoration on a ringer???

Personally I would only trust the word of the person who currently owns the car. Anyone you speak to who's involved in the restoration will be biased and will put a slant on the facts in order to make themselves look better than the other side, in what is, or will be, a high profile restoration.
I think it would embarassing for the BBC and Top Gear to press on with this now, JC saying, well 3 years on, we've just finished it!!

It was sat at Mini Master in Penrith for aaaaages as far as I know, they were meant to be doing the resto work... Until someone found out it was a ringer (the original mini was scrapped and log book used on a newer shell) then the BBC stepped back from it and are not answering any questions about it......
I guess it will all be revealed at some point though!

Well here's the argument on Minifinity that was mentioned. Some good points brought up on both sides I think and it explains a lot to those confused on the matter:

Complicated mess int it!? Doesn't it boil down to the fact that if the bbc do restore it, then they won't be able to keep the reg as the vehicle it orignally belonged to has been destroyed? I suppose the question then is, what is the vehicle that the V5 "now applies" to? It certainly seems the MCR don't have a clue about that chestnut!

It was still sat at Mini Master as recently as mid May - after the Thong Run someone had to call in there for some work and saw it.
