Seems the Mini is not as much of a dying breed as the Metro. There are a number of 0's for some of the less common models (Now extinct apparently).

Also the number of Mini-Minors has gone up in the last 3 years?

Yes there are few people saving Metros yet.....and many Mini owners have removed the engines from the A-Series ones and scrapped whats left!

Some Mini-Minors would have been stored off road long before computerised DVLA records and SORN regs came in, now they have become worth restoring, therefore more have recently re-emerged back into the DVLA on-road tax/SORN records.

I do not completely understand this. There were about 50,000 MPis (and Japanese SPis) built between late 1996 and 2000. Not all were Coopers and many were exported but this does not explain why there were only 5635 MPi Coopers (B1459) in 2000 at the end of production.
If that really was the number then it is not too bad that there are still 4590 of the 5635 surviving despite the almost daily stories of destruction on this forum.

Well my clubby is one of only 39 Mini Clubman Autos left apparently. Although its not an auto any more. I would take that site with a pinch of salt though. It says theirs only 3 mini specials left on the road. I'v seen more than 3 at a show before.

Not many MG metro's. Looks like us mini owners have nicked all the engines out of them! And only 8 METRO 6R4's ;D

Wow! only 8 6R4's. I was well lucky then, because I saw 3 of them in the pits at the Snowman Rally this year..... Ive got a picture some where..

Here we go....

The site works using the official figures from DfT which are regularly updated.........

Remember many Mini's are on SORN at any time, you need to click on the individual car description to see how many in any year/quarter.

Also not all Dealers entered an 'exact' description on the Logbook/V5 application over the years, therefore many 'Specials/Mpi/City/Mayfair/Cooper', etc would also be lost under 'plain' old Austin/Morris/BMC/BL/Leyland/BL Cars/Austin-Morris/Austin-Rover/MG-Rover/Rover 'Mini' as the registered description.

For instance, I had an early 1960 Mini - Austin Seven which was registered as just an 'Austin Saloon' and did not mention either Mini or Seven anywhere on the logbook !!

I'm not sure this is of any value at all. none of my kit cars come up, and there is at least one on the road, mine.

Also, my subaru isn't listed. so basically the data set is incomplete, thus any statistic or number that is extracted from it are of little worth.

Some low-volume manufacturers don't list their individual models eg: Bugatti have no model designations listed, so a search for 'Veyron' won't return any answers

Some ultra-low-volume manufacturers are amalgamated into 'other' categories eg. 'Zonda' vs 'Other Italian'

It's not looking good, is it?...

While I, too, mourn how few Minis are left on the roads, the How Many Left site actually provides better news than some of the reports we have heard lately on this forum. A quick totting up of figures gives the following:

Austin Mini: 13873
Austin Seven: 2639
Austin Morris Mini: 2388
Leyland Cars Mini: 949
Morris Mini: 3580
Riley Elf: 370
Rover Mini: 19003
Wolseley Hornet: 423

TOTAL: 43225

This seems to me a very respectable figure. Have I missed any or stuffed up the calculation somehow?

As already said. It only shows main figures of whats currently on the road. You have to take SORNS into account aswell, which is listed in the individual vehicle page.

you were looking at the wrong mini special list, there are 2 lists one says leyland cars and one says austin morris, its the austin morris one that you need to look at, and according to that....there are 62 mini 1100 specials licenced and on the road.....and 125 on sorn (one of which is mine!!)........well until next month when it hits the road again after 4 years!

the leyland cars mini special is the green one with the orange striped seats and as such earned the name "stripey", basically it was a mini 1000 with MGB seat covers, nothing special about that, the 1979 mini 1100 special was the first proper limited edition mini launched
