At the factory when there wasn't a tool available we used to use an old small tea spoon :(

By the way, it's bad practise to use washing up liquid as it's not paint or rubber friendly in the long run.

Apparently it also has salt in it so its really bad .... So from now on I will be using car shampoo and recomending the same unless anyone comes up with a good reason as to why it shouldn't be used ??

The high salt content is why you should never wash your car with washing-up liquid. Actually when installing the seal strip the green 'Swarfega' is quite good and is water soluble and paint-friendly, or so I'm told. I usually rub a bar of ordinary soap around the rubber with a bit of WD40 to help some if necessary. Never had a problem.

String is the technique for the fixed side windows.

rather than make a new thread...... what way does that work, string in the seal on the body side or the glass side??

on the windscreen front, this would be the better tool but i'm still using the cheaper 1 like mra's, it bends a bit but if you fit the screen on a nice warm day and use plenty of lube(car shampoo and water mix works for me) you should be ok

For the fixed side windows fix the seal to the glass, then get some strong cord and fit it into the outside groove of the seal so that you just have two long bits of the cord hanging out of the seal next to each other.

Then you need a helper to push the glass up against the frame making sure the 2 long bits of cord are inside the car.

Inside the car pull slowly on one cord, this will pull the string out of the seal and at the same time it will peel the rubber back over the window frame.

All of the glass was fitted using the string method at the factory. For the best results use something strong but soft. The guy ropes that you can buy for tents at places like Blacks is ideal. Always try and leave about 8" overlapping at each end and start from the bottom of the glass, pulling inwards from the inside. The job of the string is to lift the inner lip of the seal over the metal aperture of the body.

For reference in the factory it used to take 2 guys about 60 seconds to fit either a front or rear screen and 1 guy about 45 seconds per rear side.

I use a clothes line .... one of those thin plastic coated types, as they are strong enough to take the pulling and smooth enough to slip the rubber over the edge without damage to the rubber or paint work.... however I don't do that many screens, usually only my own.
