So what if a few minis were used, it makes the ones now more valuable.

That it does, but theres plenty of people out there who would like a mini but cant afford one, because they are more valuable. Id rather there was more of them about....... so thats what! lol

As said, at that time there were hundreds of Mk1 Minis, Coopers, Vans, pickups etc that had failed an MoT due to hole in the floor etc- and the cars were simply not deemed worthy of repair.
It seems like a sad waste now, but that film was 30 years ago, obviously the survivors are now 30 years older and sought after but it's true that we've lost something silly like 90% of Minis ever made.
It's just how it goes.
The Mini was the Fiesta/Saxo/106 of its day- and no-one cares if they get smashed up nowadays.

Its the natural course (racing pun...) of older cars really. Banger racing has contributed greatly to the massive demise of a number of now classics cars. At the time they just look like another crappy rotten box.

That was no harm back then

Just imagine what we do that sort of thing with now and all those rally cars etc, many many years on like we are when we are in our hover cars and all petrol cars are rare and classic they will lookk back at us and scream with hate for smashing up bentleys, fords, vauxhalls, volkswagens and alll so forth, we may hate the modern car now but i reckon the future generation will love them like we do our classic because our modern will be there classic

i think ill stick to our classics at present, feel sorry for those in the future who have to deal with the modern cars of today being their classics, all the plastic covers on the engine , all them electrics etc would be a nightmare to restore a present day car in say 20years time (thats if there are any left! lol) future classics will make real classics look medieval! lol
