Its because people didnt want you to go building your engine with every single surface colour in bright yellow paint...
TMF is mostly a pretty decent place to be. Theres a few idiots, naturally. Its the real world out there, there's idiots everywhere. Learn to live with it and deal with the people that you want to deal with, ignore the others if they p*ss you off.

Hahaha.
No one seems to realise that people have bad days etc. I try to be well mannered and helpful when I can be but if I reply to a post just after I stub my toe on a table I'm gonna be

Also the whole text speak problem, if you mispell something then someone being pedantic is annoying, whereas if you start to type in an incomprehensible mannor then you bring it on yourself.

Also, the forum rules on correct English (or at least an attempt at such) are only in place so that the forum remains comprehensible, 'text' speech is not! Sorry, but this is just irritating to those who have never even spoken to you!

But in recent years word processors and spell checkers in particular have helped me enormously. Not only are most of my mistakes now corrected electronically, but I've started to learn which words I'm always spelling wrong from the spell checker and how to spell them correctly in the first place. I've also taken the time to learn the difference between words like "there", "their" and "they're".... "two", "too" and "to" etc, which is a lot more difficult to grasp as an adult when the whole thing went over your head as a child.
My point is that if I can do this, then so can everybody else who has problems with spelling and grammar. If you can't spell then it doesn't mean that you are lazy or stupid, but I do think that you are lazy or stupid if you can't be bothered to use a spell checker! When I read illegible poorly spelled posts (particularly those asking for advice), I can't help thinking why should I bother making the effort to pass on the benefit of my experience to this person, if they can't even be bothered to use a spell checker to ask the question in the first place?
Also when I read poorly spelled opinions that have been expressed on posts, I can't help but dismiss the opinion on the grounds that anyone who is stupid enough not to use a spell checker when expressing an opinion, is unlikely to have a valid and well founded opinion on anything.
In short poor spelling and grammar on posts is annoying to those trying to read them. Particularly when it is so bad that you have to actually try and decipher or translate what is being said into English! Your spelling doesn't have to be perfect (mine certainly isn't) but at least make an effort. If you don't then people will think you are lazy and stupid and will be less inclined to reply, even those who can't spell themselves!!

EDIT: As for text speak ... Text speak abbreviations were specifically designed reduce the number of characters used in order to fit a message into a single text and to make the process of texting quicker, (as it is usually being typed with one thumb into a 12 digit phone key pad). Using it on an internet forum is therefore just plain lazy, even if you are accessing the net through a mobile phone!
