Its because people didnt want you to go building your engine with every single surface colour in bright yellow paint...

TMF is mostly a pretty decent place to be. Theres a few idiots, naturally. Its the real world out there, there's idiots everywhere. Learn to live with it and deal with the people that you want to deal with, ignore the others if they p*ss you off.

nar its not even about the paint because i had thought about it before i got the engine and yhh i understand people wouldnt want me to build an engine with paint over it but soooo many people said get it acit dipped when i made a thread about acid dipping there was no sign on af any one at all that told me to get it done !! so they obv didnt know much about it in the 1st place and its lots of other things not just that there is just no need to be rude people like me obv ask silly things sometimes as we obv are not as experienced as others

hence why joining and asking things to ad the experience

Hahaha.

No one seems to realise that people have bad days etc. I try to be well mannered and helpful when I can be but if I reply to a post just after I stub my toe on a table I'm gonna be :). Don't be so objective about people and you won't get as annoyed with them.

Also the whole text speak problem, if you mispell something then someone being pedantic is annoying, whereas if you start to type in an incomprehensible mannor then you bring it on yourself.

I never really care about posts like this, but am becoming rather sick of the forum being described as a collective of hateful, rude people. This is not at all true, and if there are particular people who have ruffled one's feathers then there are better ways to deal with the situation than an open topic, written in such a way as to ensure a reaction, as this was!

Also, the forum rules on correct English (or at least an attempt at such) are only in place so that the forum remains comprehensible, 'text' speech is not! Sorry, but this is just irritating to those who have never even spoken to you!

I just though that I'd add something on the spelling and grammar issue here. Now I can't spell for to save my life, my sentence construction is appalling and I only have a very loose idea about grammar. When I was at school I was told that I was dyslexic, but when I passed all the dyslexia tests, I was told that I was therefore either just lazy or plain stupid and would never amount to anything.

But in recent years word processors and spell checkers in particular have helped me enormously. Not only are most of my mistakes now corrected electronically, but I've started to learn which words I'm always spelling wrong from the spell checker and how to spell them correctly in the first place. I've also taken the time to learn the difference between words like "there", "their" and "they're".... "two", "too" and "to" etc, which is a lot more difficult to grasp as an adult when the whole thing went over your head as a child.

My point is that if I can do this, then so can everybody else who has problems with spelling and grammar. If you can't spell then it doesn't mean that you are lazy or stupid, but I do think that you are lazy or stupid if you can't be bothered to use a spell checker! When I read illegible poorly spelled posts (particularly those asking for advice), I can't help thinking why should I bother making the effort to pass on the benefit of my experience to this person, if they can't even be bothered to use a spell checker to ask the question in the first place?

Also when I read poorly spelled opinions that have been expressed on posts, I can't help but dismiss the opinion on the grounds that anyone who is stupid enough not to use a spell checker when expressing an opinion, is unlikely to have a valid and well founded opinion on anything.

In short poor spelling and grammar on posts is annoying to those trying to read them. Particularly when it is so bad that you have to actually try and decipher or translate what is being said into English! Your spelling doesn't have to be perfect (mine certainly isn't) but at least make an effort. If you don't then people will think you are lazy and stupid and will be less inclined to reply, even those who can't spell themselves!! :)

EDIT: As for text speak ... Text speak abbreviations were specifically designed reduce the number of characters used in order to fit a message into a single text and to make the process of texting quicker, (as it is usually being typed with one thumb into a 12 digit phone key pad). Using it on an internet forum is therefore just plain lazy, even if you are accessing the net through a mobile phone!
