depends on how much u got to spend, most start with a stage one kit but be carefull to choose one that has been properly developed. should set u back around 170 notes, then a rolling road session to get it tuned up.

if you can spread out some more cash then a decent head and cam will help no end. firstly ensure the engine is running nice a standard or it could make tuning pointless if something isnt working properly.

On madmax's 998, it already had a stg kit on it so for the price of a few dremel bits, a skim and a new head gasket set (total around £50-£60) we got it to shift. But you need to knwo where to take material from on the head.

A budget and your technical knowlege would help please.

We're talking a budget of <£100!! eeeek :gasp:

Techy knowledge - I say reasonably competent (if that's how you spell it!!) - I managed to remove my old engine, but I supose thats easy compaired to increasing power.

I'd say the best thing you can do is either carry out a good and proper service on your engine, or try and pick up a very cheap second hand 1275. You *may* just be able to peice together a stage 1 kit from second hand bits, but you'll need £40-80 for the rolling road session.

Good service, it'll serve you well... then save the money for a stage one or keep tabs on ebay / forsale section.. or even put a wanted up....

How would you manage that on a budget of £100?

Firstly, why have you takenthe engine out?

As already suggested, all you're going to get for £100 is a 2nd hand or cobbled together stage 1 kit, and to fit this dosen't need the engine removing. If you've got the engine out because it needs fixing then this will eat your budget before you even start making it go faster.

Buying David Vizzards book would be a good investment though, there's plenty of DIY stuff in there.

Wil

Edit: have you got a 1275 to go in?

I've taken the 998 out because I've got a 1275 to replace it hence the lack of budget.

I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver a copy of the afore mentioned book by Mr V, but any suggestions would be greatfully received.

As for the turbo suggestion, I'd love a turbo - but not gonna manage that on £100 budget (unless some kind soul will supply one? )

Do you know the history of the new engine? Did you hear it running in the car before you bought it?

If the answer is no to the above then your £100 budget might not go very far at all.

Yeah, came from a sprite, which was written off by 'Lucky', wasn't able to test drive it, but it was running ok in car.

If your going from a 998 to a 1275, isn't that good enough budget tune up?

Personally, I would just give it a good service (strip it) and replace anything worn or U/S, then rebuild, a decent air filter, and exhurst system (LCB the works) and that will be enough for you I think, remember check your insurence!!!

That's true, but I'm surrounded by little chav's in their tuned Nova's and I want to give them a f#@kin' fright when they rev their chav chariots and zoom away from me.

Think I'm going power mad.....

Have you ever been a 1275 Mini?
With a decent stg1 kit, and a good built engine, a Mini will only leave dust over a Nova, and what you going to do, if they have a 2 litre Nova?????

Remeber, you'll have near a 1.3 vs a 1.2, 750kg vs about 800-900kg...

What sort of driving do you do?
