if you can spread out some more cash then a decent head and cam will help no end. firstly ensure the engine is running nice a standard or it could make tuning pointless if something isnt working properly.

We're talking a budget of <£100!! eeeek :gasp:A budget and your technical knowlege would help please.
Techy knowledge - I say reasonably competent (if that's how you spell it!!) - I managed to remove my old engine, but I supose thats easy compaired to increasing power.

As already suggested, all you're going to get for £100 is a 2nd hand or cobbled together stage 1 kit, and to fit this dosen't need the engine removing. If you've got the engine out because it needs fixing then this will eat your budget before you even start making it go faster.
Buying David Vizzards book would be a good investment though, there's plenty of DIY stuff in there.

Edit: have you got a 1275 to go in?

I've taken the 998 out because I've got a 1275 to replace it hence the lack of budget.Edit: have you got a 1275 to go in?
I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver a copy of the afore mentioned book by Mr V, but any suggestions would be greatfully received.
As for the turbo suggestion, I'd love a turbo - but not gonna manage that on £100 budget (unless some kind soul will supply one? )

If the answer is no to the above then your £100 budget might not go very far at all.

Yeah, came from a sprite, which was written off by 'Lucky', wasn't able to test drive it, but it was running ok in car.Do you know the history of the new engine? Did you hear it running in the car before you bought it?

Personally, I would just give it a good service (strip it) and replace anything worn or U/S, then rebuild, a decent air filter, and exhurst system (LCB the works) and that will be enough for you I think, remember check your insurence!!!

With a decent stg1 kit, and a good built engine, a Mini will only leave dust over a Nova, and what you going to do, if they have a 2 litre Nova?????
Remeber, you'll have near a 1.3 vs a 1.2, 750kg vs about 800-900kg...
What sort of driving do you do?
