Hey,

Was down my local scrappers this morning, and found this:

Posted Image

A pristine looking Allegro 1275 A-Series. The car had 34000 miles on the clock, the yard wants £50 for the engine/box complete.

Is it worth getting? I can't remember if there's anything special about the Allegro engines, I don't think there is though. It has normal pot joints on, and the oil looks in good nick. Also the head is a rather large casting near the thermostat housing, I couldn't read if it was a 12G940 or not as it wasn't visible under the rockers. The block has also had a skim at some point in its life too, as there's no engine number plate and visible machining marks where the number would be.

Worth getting do you think?

Ta

The only thing different will be the final drive which because of the size of the wheels is quite short, some are 4.3:1..

From the picture it looks like and a+, so will pertty much the same as a bog std metro engine...

anything over 50 notes leave it where it is..

That just indicates it's a 1275 head, certainly not a cooper head...

allegro engines are what we used before metros were invented and before that was the austin 1300 (GT if you could find one )
I would say deffo go for it at £50
the cheapest 1275cc round here was £180 no gaurentee , bring it back for your money back whithin 7 days
I needed a 1275 for my flame red not long back , had to settle for a 1000
any body else wanted £400 or more PLUS carrage of upto £100

Wasn't the Allegro 1500 conversion like the Vtec of 15/20 years ago?
