Model: Mayfair
Year: B plate 1984
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Ok, in short my heater only seems to be blowing hot air into the car.

Here's the situation - when the heater is switched to ON and the heater push / pull is fully depressed.....

Switched to 'Car': really hot air is blown out of the heater block (below centre). Neither dash air blowers are working

Switched to 'Screen': really hot air blows out below the heater (as above), nothing blows out of the vents at the top of the dash onto windscreen

Switched to 'Off': No air is blown out of below (but block remains hot) and nothing blown out of dash heaters (as above)

So, it only ever seems to blow hot in any of the combinations above - both pipes are connected to the central heater block as expected, but obviously something isn't right.

Any ideas? Thanks! :D

Sounds like the hot/cold valve on the head is stuck open, try moving it by hand or take it off and free it up.

A 'heater' by definition is designed to blow hot air - sounds like it's working well......

It's a valve on the top left of the head next to the rocker cover with a pipe sticking out of it.

generally HEATERS only blow hot air :D
the heater tap the matrix is the thing with the pipe and *bike break cable looking thing* coming off it, either of the left of the top of the engine or the top right of the engine bay on one of the 2 pipes

Would that solve the problem of the air not being distributed to the front screen vents?

No, if you pull one of the pipes off the side, is air coming out of that?

No, there's a flap at the front of the heater matrix (inside it) which should open and close to do that.

[protip] Minis have a built in feature on each other the doors, if you wind the black handle, it'll put the window down >_<

Ok folks, seem to have got it settled now, just one more question.....

My two dashboard air vents that blow out when turned clockwise, the driver side one is really strong as expected but the passenger side one is hardly blowing anything out - any notorious fail points for that to happen?

the pipe from the front panel by the grille has more than likely fell off.
when the same pipe fell off on mine, i got really hot air coming through the passenger vent as it was the warm air from the rad.
