the heater should blow cold (ish) air but only when the heater tap is closed before the engine is warm.
if at any time the tap is opened, the water in there is hot and has no way to escape.

as many have said, its a heater so its meant to blow hot air.

the two air vents at either side of the dash are for cold air, (hence term fresh air vents). the left one has a smaller pick up on the front for the cold air to rush into, and a smaller pipe. therefore there is less of a 'ram effect' the drivers side one is quite large then goes to a smaller pipe (smaller than the pick up) which causes a lot of air to be pushed down the pipe. this is why the drivers one is stronger

wow, thanks for the detailed explanation - very useful. The left one is barely trickling though, very very little coming out of it, which leads me to think there may be a problem - I presume that you should be feeling at least a decent 'blow' out of the left pipe?

mine had some kind of foamy stuff blocking it, half the pipe was nicely lined with it then it was all crumpled up, took that out and it was fine! shine a wee torch into it...

the "blow" depends on how fast your going, the faster your travelling the faster the "blow" through the fresh air vents.

youll find either your pipe has worked its way loose or its blocked.
either way a toddler could fix it.

the pipes have foam in them to soak up moisture so you dont get sprayed with road grime. sort of working like a filter.

id take it off and poke something through it carefully to see if theres a blockage
