Although i have not driven the new RS the new Knuckle is supposed to eliminate a lot of the torque steer but when you are throwing over 300 horses through the front wheels there will still be some torque steer although nowhere near as bad as the original MK1 RS Focus.

I think Ford really messed up by not incorporating 4WD in both of these beasties for the public. For front wheel drive motors though they are still cracking cars. If my daily commute was less than 10 miles then i would love to own them.

There's a thought for Ford how about a diesel powered RS, VW have rallied a diesel golf and Seat was quite successful with there Diesel BTCC car. Go on give it a go.

For a start, the ST has 225bhp, and the RS 300bhp, using the same 5 cylinder engine.

The RS has bigger wheels, brakes and has the Revo-knuckle suspension system.

Plus the obvious visual differences, the ST can look pretty 'ordinary' compared to an RS.

I thought they were the same underneath- and just different in trim, engine and fancy bits!

You think the RS at 300bhp is bad for torque steer- the new RS500 is FWD too, IMO a ridiculous decision!

we had a new MINI Cooper s (turbo) as a loan car and the torque steer on that was dangerous

if you put your foot down to overtake and touched a white line it was all over the place ;)

mind you think it was down to run flat tyres and a crap diff

the Type R is spot on :)

What got me was that everyone seemed to be surprised when the Focus RS came out and people found that it suffered from torque steer - was the Escort RS Turbo really so long ago that they didn't remember that trying to control a lot of power to the front wheels using an LSD resulted in a car that would drag you all over the road. At 70 an RS Turbo would drag you all the way to lane 3 of the motorway if you planted the accelerator. Even an XR3i could drag you around if you weren't ready for it.

The difference is, people who own an ST spend their life explaining why they don't have an RS.

just read that...
The RS500 isnt a new car, its a limited production run ( A last hurrar if you will) of the then current focus (now been replaced by the MK3 focus)
They made 500 of them with 350ish BHP, and an option for a matte lacquer over the standard paint to give you matte black or matte white (its the same laqure they use on the new M3 and fiat arbarths).

They used to say the limit for an FWD car was 200bhp, but that was before the new developments in suspension and differential technology, they haven't quite found the limit now, but i think its arround the 400bhp mark.
