I just don't see how that can be classed as motorsport in any way
Its because a great man once said "it don't matter whether you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning"
no wait, that can't be right

I was once a "pikey"

Hi Kam, how you doing mate ?
Im sure Craig didnt mean it as a derogatory remark but more "off the cuff". (did i spell that right ?)
Rightio... As said, i do understand peoples feelings about racing classic cars, believe it or not most banger drivers would not race such a classic as a Westy, Rover or A60 that was good enough to stay on the road. Despite most peoples views we're not stupid and do recognise a decent car and obviously one thats worth a few quid. Obviously theres a few exceptions as in any walk of life.
I know plenty of racers that have such cars as their everday driver. The ones that do get raced also supply the enthusiasts with spares that get removed from the car prior to racing.
The reason we like to race them is nostalgia, its great to race the cars we started our racing lives in.. Better than any Mundaneo.... But yes, nowadays its a shame when a decent one gets wrecked.
Im guilty or racing dozens of classic/retro motors..
I wont list them

I have only just realised that Toyboy 396 must be from the highly rated Motley Krew team -sorry for being so dim.
On the subject of dim, Lee are you racing at Tims meeting in November?
Maybe some people who are not so sure about racing, some of its ethics or the type of people who race should pop along to Northampton - Brafield stadium in November to the Dim Tim meeting, a meeting in memory of a Motley Krew driver who passed away earlier this year, to raise some funds for 2 charities.
There is a prize raffle - first is a ready to race Nissian Bluebird on the day, sure no one would mind this being wrecked!
Sure if anyone wants to know any more, sure Lee can assist - may even have raffle tickets or be able to sort them out.

Agreed Toyboy. What an absolutely quality meeting that Westy meeting was. The best meeting I've ever been too I think. Too late to get misty eyed now as it's happened and most have been scrapped. This is coming from someone who is 18 on the 21st, and I've been racing since I was 11, and I have personally had over ten minis on the track. One settled civilian, whose parents pay all their taxes and earn an honest living, who races, over and out.
P.S. I can't imagine an all Mondgayo meeting in 40 years time, can you.

but not drive them round in circles, crashing into everything in sight, or going the wrong way round, it's just daft, each to their own I suppose
That sounds like BTCC to me

I was thinking more of the John Cleland days

I think a good way to learn banger racing is to drive in central london for a day

Yes, but not everyone crashes into every car they see, unlike those yanks in there demoltion derbies. A lot of people go racing to win, hence why they have so many championships, and even a 'world final'. There, also, wouldn't be the 'big' money meetings if it was down to last car running, there is some skill in getting a ricketty old shed round a narrow oval.I don't see it as "racing" though. We race and rally classic cars at my work, but not drive them round in circles, crashing into everything in sight, or going the wrong way round, it's just daft, each to their own I suppose
