Hiya guys , I recently put my 1330 engine into my mini , it's running fairly standard parts other than a set of minisport hi lift rockers but it has developed a strange knock , it's definatly not the valve clearances , am thinking it's probably a cam follower, it's on the timing side of thing as the tap rate isn't right for it to be main bearings , I'll try and put a video of the noize up . Any help greatly appreciated!

If the cam was changed it is likely that a duplex chain was fitted, if this was fitted with a tensioner, it may have fallen off.....definitely worth taking the timing cover off and having a poke about, and probable worth removing the tensioner if it is a duplex chain.

If it is a simplex chain (one row) then check for slack, if there is slack then the chain will tap and slap about. To rectify this purchase a tensioner and adjust to take up slack...or just by a duplex chain kit!

Also are you sure the knock isn't the fan catching on the cowling.

Ok I'll have a look inside the timing cover this evening, and it's defo not the fan,

Here's the video , it's hard to pick it out on here but it's the strong knock

Are you sure you have clearance between your valves and pistons as you are using hi lift rockers?
How much did you have the head skimmed / block decked during the rebuild?

The block has had a 5 thou skim so don't think that should be a problem , still knocks even with the standard rockers on :/ but I will take the head off and have a look tonight , thanks please keep ideas coming :)

5 thou off the block should not be a problem if the head has not been heavily skimmed.

100% I set them and reset them and it defo aint coming from them , i did notice it's louder with the rocker cover on strangely , working like a bass box I reckon which leads me to think it's a follower , any one else had a cam follower make lots of noize?

I assure you that is not the problem, the slightest connection between piston and valve would render the engine usless. To me it sounds cam related, if you put pressure on each rocker in turn ( a mallet or lump of wood) with it running see if the sound changes in any way, it might help you isolate the source.

Mine was making a loud tapping noise like yours but it was the 1.5-1 rockers tapping against the rocker cover...Obviously not your problem as you have the cover removed. Not a lot of oil splashing about your rockers though. I would have expected to see oil splooshing about in your video....

I have put some pressure on them but will try again , and I have the revs really low so oil doesn't make a mess in the engine bay , the moment u raise the revs you get a shed load of oil up there , the frustrating thug is it running sweet , pulls like a train and starts perfectly just annoying tapping which isn't right and it's doing my head in :/

I ran my pug 106 diesel for 20 miles to work and back with the valves hitting the pistons after doing a cam belt change.
Luckily it had vernier gear on camshaft and I was able to retard the cam a bit to stop it.
