ive been looking at fitting a set of cobra suzuka side mount seats to my mini. im 6'3" tall and fitting the seats using a set of subframes means they sit way too high and forward

now heres my question,

im thinking of welding 2 25mm x 25mm tubes to the exhaust tunnel across to the inner sill then mounting the seats to these with tapped holes. will this be stong enough to be safe in a crash? i will use thick wall mild steel box and stich the box to each of the ridges in the floor to make it as good as it can be

ive mocked up the seat with wood to get the position right

the reason i want them like this is the 30cm of head room and the awesome seating position that you get. my dad is the same hight as me so it shows how low you can get, this is on the top holes of the side mounts too!!

I would have a look around and to see if I could get another set of brackets that extended higher up to give the required position. Something like this might be what you need. Clicky

Your Mini looks pretty cool by the way.

mike, thats kinda what im looking at making anyway ive got a price for some mild steel today £15 to do both seats so this will be happening lol

tupers the seat is actualy higher than i want it. i put it up there to mock the mounts up. it will be as low as i can get it and still be able to use the pedals propperly, and dropping the steering wheel enough too

im actually really excited about doing this as even sitting on the wood mock ups it feels epic
