maybe there should be a bait car set, something that looks pretty tastey (but in reality its a proper lemon of a mini full of filler etc and painted up nice) nice wheels n the usual external mods, and fit a tracker, secret cameras, movement detectors so it can let you know when its been lifted, and follow it to where they dissapear to so often, find the source, find the minis....

I like the thought of that, then we can get rid of all the thieving f*ckers for good :D , i don't know how the b*stards live with themselves!

That's a hell of an idea - could it be actually possible to do this? like how many people are on this forum? £2 donation into a pot by all of them, to create a bait car with trackers/ camera's the lot....?

ooh just looked £2 per registered member would seem to give us +£60k!! so even just 50p each would do the job theoretically if everyone wanted to donate. If somebody wanted to set up team or whatever to do this, I would happily donate towards this? or is this all a bit out of reach

MY HTC desire mobile phone has GPS tracking capability!

What do you do with the information once you find out where the mini has gone?

Tracking sorted! Um well I know you can get the police to retrieve stolen items if you know where they are, and they usually do it pretty quickly, I know from having a trials bike stolen in the past, which we happened to see a kid riding round on it at the local gypsy (sorry - travelling Romany-type) camp, and the police went and picked it up straight away.

Then surely you would have evidence to prosecute from video footage, as long as it hadn't been found already....

Yeah this is a pie in the sky idea isn't it

A bit more expensive than my phone!

And with the phone you could set it to auto answer and listen to conversations in the car!

Just make sure you have agreed value insurance and take solace that it's going to another mini luvver and not being scrapped.

That's entrapment, fine in the US (we have all seen the US bait cars on Road Wars) but not in the UK. The best it could achieve is finding out where they end up for future reference and to get it back. Sorry to burst the bubble.

Would still be worth finding out where they end up.

ahaa well if you trackers/cameras in your beloved mini there us no reason you cant use them and notify the police as soon as you know the car is on the move

Correction - its entrapment if the police set up the bait car. However, it would just be the same as any other stolen car with a tracker, if we as a community did it! Get it nicked, call the police and inform them it has a tracker, and a mobile listening device... Simple! They still have to do something!

I have a feeling that it may just be a waste of money, i think you are expecting this field filled with all the lost minis, when in reality it would probs be a shed with a few odd bolts and such, i cant imagine they will hang around and "do it tomorrow" so you may end up finding them waiting for the mob of enthusiasts after they have found the trackers and cameras or just an empty shed. and also they may well be watching this forum, so they would know all the details. i dont want to water on any parades but i cant see this actually working. just my tuppence worth :)
