Yo,

Want to go get my paints in a bit, still confused if they are going to kill me or not.

2K is 2pack paint, right, and thats the one that kills you?

But its not legal in England so no paint shop should sell me it ... right?

I just think the clerk at the paint shop is trying to kill me.

Edit

Better yet, anyone provide a CLEAR link to what I should look out for on the can. Or just explain it all to me very very slowly.

If you are using 2 pack paint you need to wear proper breathing apparatus as it contains isocyanates which are very toxic.

Whether the paint shop is allowed to sell it to you is another matter, I am not sure what the law is there, but you can always google it.

It is like buying fuel from the petrol station, if you drink it it will do you quite a lot of harm but they don't say you cant buy it!

Right.

So if I want to avoid the whole death by 2k paint, what should I get instead?

From the small amount of googling I've done its the hardened that does you in. Also should I be worried by the 1k clear coat I got as well?

Problem with 2 pack is that different people react to it in different ways. Its nasty stuff but will affect some more than others,

I once painted an xr2 bonnet without a mask, entirely by accident. Its a mistake i'll never make again, my lung felt like they were on fire that night.

Selling 2k is entirely legal and contary to what a lot of people belive its still very widely available.

Its stinky horrible stuff and will make your neigbours hate you.

Cellouse(celly) is a much better choice, you don't need an expensive air fed mask,. A simple filter one will suffice.

Celly can also be a bit sensitive to the old paint underneath and may react.

To reduce this risk use some 'bar coat', its a sealer that will help prevent thr paint thats already on the car reacting with the nice new stuff you're about to chuck on.

My local paint place will sell me 5lts of celly, 5lts of high gloss thinners and a tin of 8ar coat for under £150.

I'm on my phone at the mo but at home i've got a nice guide to painting from another site.

Oh chuffin' hell. Paint shop is closed today anyway, so I shall have to go get a few things from tesco to prime on Monday (strip and prime is my idea for monday, but need some mixing cups and scotch pads).

So, the pain to avoid death, I want either celly or water based paint (I had a read on the interweb)?

Things were much simpler when I just did primer ... hmmm ... any idea how to make Primer less rust prone?

if you get water base you still have to put clearcoat on top. That has isocyanates in it .i have sprayer 2k with a 3m mask on .Not saying you should ,but one car won't kill you .been spraying 35 years still here.At work i use air fed mask because the amount of cars i spray a day.

I hear its fairly bad all round stuff (bar on the finish, which case it tends to be bomb proof), but I'm spraying this in a back garden garage, neighbours all have kids and my lungs get enough abuse.

have a word with your local body shop ,see how much it will cost for them to put a coat over for you ,or to hire for 3hours there oven. no harm in asking.

Welp, considering I have little to no job, there'll be a problem there. Materials I can sort of afford, other peoples time I cannot.

Knowing me I'll just go "balls to it" on the day and go with primer again.

Or I'll go down on Tuesday and ask for celly paint.

Kit and materials wise, Set a budget of 450 pounds if you don`t have a decent compressor. Ie at least 3hp 100L.

You can get away with 300 pounds for everything else though
