I once had a problem with a loose condensor which shorted out when revved, Allways started ok though.

My wife used to own a VW Rabbit (Mk1 Golf in Europe?). It would start and idle fine but the engine would die when revved or placed under load. After much searching I found that the Hall Effect sensor in the distributor had 3 wires that needed to flex every time the vacuum advance worked. The wire insulation had cracked and the copper conductor failed in one wire. Without vacuum advance the ends of the broken wire touched and the engine would run. Let the vacuum advance kick in and the wire would flex so the copper ends came out of contact at the break... and the engine would die. I spent a day looking for that one. Ignitions can be tricky.
