But, I have been told that the A plus is a stronger box for starters. The other thing with trying to use the A series gears in an A+ box is that I think a couple of the parts are different sizes (the idler gear is different and I think the layshaft is different).
You can however use an A plus box on an A series, or visa versa.

The same goes for the A+ idler - it's larger, so they could use a lower quality metal - but the bearing's ARE better AFAIK
to use an pre A+, on an A+ engine - just use an A-series idler, and transfer case. Or get the idler hole in the gearbox machined larger to suit the A+ idler bearings

You would need to use all pre A+ drop gears as the A-series idler has a different tooth profile to an A+ primary and input gear.

I know of someone selling a jack knight SC/CR gear box minus the diff which is he believes an A series not A+. Is it possible to interchange gear boxes?
Well the only difference here will be that the idler is the 'small bearing' type as the rest of the gear set would have been replaced...
could use all A-series drop gears, or go roller drop gear route

bought the gears but they are in an autobox A series box so will need puttin in a manual box.
er, check again - you wont get manual gears in an auto box...

Depends on what exactly you have - the gearsets themselves are pretty universal with the odd bit of swopping needed regarding shafts for example..

If you want the best of both worlds, what you need to get hold of is a set of the newer GT Gears, or early A+ gears which have the A series profile ( slighty chunkier than the A+ and less helical in profile ) but have the A+ 18mm nose bearing on the 3rd motion shaft.

Can you get straight cut automatic gears? as the gears are definantly stright cut but i was told in an autobox so now a little confused. The box looks a little modified with bits grinded off it here there and everywhere. Ill try get some pics and post them.

with bits ground off etc, it may have been stress relieved, but more likely butchered..
Photo's would be good !
We're all a little intrigued...
ps... you look for anything to do with automatic on Minispares, and I'll think you'll be lucky to find a gasket...
