Hi. Just wondering if anyone on here has had their arches rolled and if so how do they do it. I was wondering how possible it is because of the seem on the front.

Thanks.

You can't roll the arches on a Mini, the structure doesn't allow for it. If you really want to go low you've got to tub the rear arches and modify the seams on the front.

theres two types of arch rolling.

in the euro scene, the only reason they roll the arches is to bend the seam on the arches upwards so that it removes the sharp edge, this stops the tyre being cut.

the other type of arch "rolling" is where the arch profile is actually extended so that you can "tuck" your wheel.

neither of which can actually be done o na mini because A) the seam is on the outside of the arch so cant touch the tyre anyway B) the seam prevents the 2nd type of rolling.

as tupers said, the only way to go REALLY low, is to cut the front arches (to stop the wheels from rubbing on lock) and to tub the rear arches.

This was the reason I wanted to do it. I just wanted to do something different as I'm a tad bored of all the arches you see at the moment. They all just seem the same. Would it work if I de seamed the seam between the wing and A panel just at the bottom bit making it basically one panel?

Not exactly sure of the look you're going for but if you want some thing rounded, use round bar!!

Cut the arch to the radius you want, bend a length of say 8mm diameter bar to a neat radius similar to the arch cut. Weld the bar to the inside/edge of the wing/a-panel and then blend it in.

You'll have a very strong arch and the edge will be nice and round.

Not seen it done on a mini before and not even sure it would work and not look gash, its an idea though???

think he wants the actual body work to flare out instead of having an arch stuck on the outside! Think it would look fairly similar to just flushin some wp arches to the body wouldnt it?

I'm basically after the body work of the car as the arch. This is how you go about doing it. with an arch rolling tool.

Just wondering if anyone has done it to a mini before. I may see if I can find someone local who does it and get them to come out and have a look to see if they think they have a way of doing it.

As said previously it wont work a Mini as the structure of a Mini wing and rear arch is not the same as the modern cars the arch rollers are made for. You actually need some kind of steel fare in the wing before you can flare it out.

that photo isnt of the arch rolling technique your after, that method bends the inner lip upwards to avoid cutting the tyre.

Thanks for all the replies. I had another idea today. Do you think I could get away with welding an extra bit of metal round the arches and then getting that rolled? Not sure how to explain it really. But basically it wouldn't be the minis shell its self being rolled it would be the extra bit of metal. I hope that makes sense lol.

Well kind of yes. But would be smoothed in. I dont really want to get fiberglass arches and fiberglass them in like some people do. I want more of a flared wing.

could you remove the seams above the arch about 5 " and then roll the arch and fill in with metal and then either deseam or weld a seam back in?? like adding a triangle piece of metal to the arch to give it more 'bubble'

May work on the front but wont work on the rear as their is not enough metal between the lip and the inner arch bit. Hence why I thought of welding the extra metal in.

Get yourself some card, thick enough to keep its shape, and make a template of a shape you like. Not sure if its a rounded arch you want, like the mk1 escort rounded type or something else! If its a flat shape simply coming out of the wing then you'll be able to make a cresent shape from sheet and bend it around the arch to get you desired shape. Make it out of the card first though as this will be a lot easier then you'll be able to see if you can get the shape you want before you start cutting up sheet metal. Damn you, you're starting to get me thinking now!!!
